Dallas Then and Now
When Thunder Bay Press asked the editors of Railfan & Railroad in the year 2000 if they knew someone in the Metroplex that would be interested in writing a book for them on Dallas illustrated with old photos and current ones taken in the same spot, they forwarded my name. The result was Dallas Then and Now published in 2001, which is still a local bestseller. I chose the "Then" photographs from the files of the Dallas Public Library, and though I would have loved to take the "Now" pictures myself, the publishers already had their own photographer, a talented gentleman named Simon Clay. I had mapped out all the locations prior to Simon's arrival, so we had good time traveling to each location based on the time of day for the best sun and figuring out how to recreate the perspective of the original picture as faithfully as possible.
