BNSF Reactor Vessel Special Move

In March 2005 BNSF moved a 600-ton reactor vessel from Houston to a refinery in Denver, CO.

CEBX 800 is a special car for moving oversized loads by rail, in this case a 600-ton petroleum reactor vessel.

The car is bolted to the load on each end with control and hydraulic lines running down each side of the vessel. The car can move the vessel to eaither side of the track or raise it to clear obstructions.

The whole train moves at a maximum of 15 mph, making for a long day chasing it.

Here we see the train about to arrive at Sweetwater, TX. BNSF assigned it one of its new GE ES44 locomotives, #7687.

The next morning the "JPTRDEN" train is seen between Sweetwater and Gannon as it continues the slow journey to Denver.
