October 3rd of 2009 was last year’s annual “Day in North America” for Railroads Illustrated Magazine, and the results are in the current issue. The section is smaller this year in my opinion, and the only photo published from this area was taken by Wes Carr at Saginaw looking down at two of the stored FURX ex-BN SD40-2’s. Congratulations Wes!
Here are the three shots I submitted for the day, none of which were chosen. First up is the UP 2646 just after sunrise passing Purina Mills southbound while the plant tractor is switching cars on the left.
Later on I worked the cat tails at Echo Lake Park into this photo of the UP 9700 South leaving Fort Worth on the Midlothian Sub.
A short time later here is the UP 5930 South climbing the grade out of Fort Worth into Forest Hill, also on the Midlothian Sub.
Better luck this year!
