Back on September 18th after we left the Paducah & Louisville empty coal train behind on our way northeast towards Louisville, we finall got off the Western Kentucky Parkway at Elizabethtown and turned north on Interstate 65. In short order on the west side of the highway we saw a CSX train heading south towards Nashville, and a few miles further north I spotted an exit sign for Lebanon Junction. That certainly sounded like a railroad name worthy of a look-see. We were due a driving break, so exiting I65 we drove a mile west into an idyllic small town. A block from the tracks we stopped at an ex-L&N Family Lines caboose on display.
The attached plaque gave the details of its donation.
At this point I thought I heard a train approaching and ran the last block to the tracks. Unfortunately the sound turned out to be a truck, and that was unfortunate as the view to the south was very interesting with both main tracks running under an abandoned coaling tower.
Looking north there was no train in sight either, and waiting ten minutes did not change that situation. The building on the left less than 20-feet from the track would be a great place for a railfan to have an office though.
Lebanon Junction turned out to be one of those neat places to add to my list of locations to return to some day in hopes of catching a train in one of the last two scenes. Now it was time to cover the last miles to LaGrange for the night.

Wow!! Check out the jointed main line rail. Looks like the OKT line in northern Oklahoma.
