This past week friends David Shrewsbury and Terry Lewis were back in town from Indiana to catch as many trains as possible away from home. We spent some time together on Tuesday the 23rd when I got off work early to catch the BNSF’s first big SD40-2 move, and on Thursday the 25th I got off after 3:00pm and took them to my favorite spot close to home in Boaz Park. I had spotted a westbound green board at Bryant Irvin with no train in sight on the way here from the office, and within 10 minutes of our arrival a headlight appeared to the east. Within a minute the UP 4544 West raced by with four units up front and no DPU.
We waited about twenty minutes and caught the eastbound MODFW rolling off its last miles into Davidson Yard. SW1500 number 1074 was dead in the consist behind the lead unit.
One hundred or so cars back the UP 7657 was working in dynamic brake mode as the head end prepared to enter the yard tracks.
Nothing else sounded close, so from here we drove towards the Trinity River bridges on the north side of town.
