Santa Fe Dinosaurs

After Amtrak 22 left Temple, Russ and Troy and I turned our attention to the BNSF engine terminal on the other side of the fence and the main line. SD40-2 6308 and GP30 2421 were coupled nose-to-nose across from us, and as both units were shut down we could not tell if they were stored or in service, although I am guessing stored.

A close up of the two noses made a nice study in the contrast of EMD body lines around 20 years apart.

Further back was a string of definitely stored SD45-2 B-units. I zoomed in to record the 6522 and the 6523 on the south end of a long string of units.

It is hard to say if these 20-cylinder dinosaurs will ever be out in revenue service again.
