I was out with family for a bit of shopping this afternoon, but the Baird Sub near the house was very quiet all day, so no new action shots have been taken yet for 2009. I went back into the slide boxes this evening and pulled out this photo of the old Texas Chief just south of Ardmore, Oklahoma on Christmas Day in 1972 to end the holiday season with.
A very clean F-7A 305 is leading three FP-7B’s and nine cars towards Houston this day, and I was half-way through my senior year at Ardmore High School. The ex-Santa Fe train will continue to be known as the Texas Chief for two more years until 1974 when the name was changed to the Lone Star after the AT&SF took the name away from Amtrak due to the perception of declining standards.
Thank you everyone for your kind remarks after yesterday’s blog post. Here’s to a great year for all of us in 2009!
