Horsin’ Around
I heard BNSF DS22 talking to the southbound RoadRailer with NS power around Justin, so thinking of a shot with NS “ponies” and live horses I decided to see if I could get closer to the small herd seen in the first photo of yesterday’s blog post. That turned out to be a relatively simple task by driving through and out the back of a church parking lot, and I quickly found myself broadside to the tracks at the new signal bridge at South Haslet. At first the horses were curious to see if I had brought them a snack, and two of them were right up to the fence in front of me as a light engine movement out of Saginaw came by with a faded warbonnet leading.
The going away view also included the interested equines and a better painted H2 trailing.
A few minutes behind the light engine move was this northbound merchandise train also headed to the yard, and I had picked a good open spot to be in to record all six of its big GE’s up front, including one NS “pony”.
Finally with a clear shot to run south to at least Lake Wanda, the RoadRailer highballed past my lens, and while the rest of the herd had wandered out of the scene by now, I still got one real horse in the shot along with the pair of NS “black beauties”.
Checking my watch I had about an hour left before I needed to head home to get ready for the wedding shoot beginning at noon. The auto train in the Haslet siding was getting a new crew, and DS22 told them they could follow the RoadRailer down to Lake Wanda.
