A Friendly Wave at Vernon

Upon arriving at Chillecothe, our foursome split up to choose our personal locations to shoot the Quanah Flyer.  Taking into consideration the ever increasing back light on the eastbound train, I composed this side view of the train with a local icon in the form of a harvester.

A Busy Time in Quanah

Joe Harper and I drove to the BNSF yard office on the east side of town where the wye to the yard and on to Altus comes off of the Red River Valley Sub.  The Quanah Flyer pulled up and then backed into the west leg, but before it reached us a loaded coal train roared by eastbound towards Wichita Falls.

Quanah Rolls Out the Red Carpet

Most of downtown Quanah was roped off in preparation for the celebration of the train’s arrival, so as the Quanah Flyer pulled in Joe and I had to find a place to park and then walk down to the tracks. As we passed the old Quanah, Acme & Pacific headquarters I recorded this view before the crowd arrived.

Red River Valley Sub

Once the Quanah Flyer arrived in Wichita Falls I turned my boarding passengers over to conductor Steve Goen.  I welcomed official videographer Joe Harper off of the train into my vehicle and with little time to spare we drove to an old bridge over the Wichita River from which we could look over to the railroad bridge.  As Joe shot video, I switched to vertical so I could get as much water in the shot as possible as the BNSF 7752 rolled by entering the Red River Valley Sub.
