Familiar Things

When you are driving and lisitening to the radio you always get interested when a favorite song suddenly starts to play, even though you have heard it many times before.  The same is true for picture spots after a long day at work if unexpectedly the timing works out and a train is coming with good light.  Such was the case on July 3rd before the three day weekend (which was a work weekend for us IT guys) when on the way home I was just far enough ahead of a westbound MFWOD train leaving Davidson Yard to beat it to Boaz Park.

The UP 4341 West with two SD70M’s and GE C44-9 is certainly similar to many other trains I have shot at this location in the past, but it was still a great feeling when the scenario started to play out once again for me.

Two Trains for the Week

After the NRHS convention Judy and I spent the following week in Sweetwater taking care of my father while his caregivers were on vacation.  It was a busy week of home repair and other tasks that resulted in my only photographing two trains during the entire visit.  On the morning of Friday June 27th I was in town for supplies when I heard a K5LLA horn coming in on the UP from the west for a crew change.  I made it to even with the west switch of the siding for this view of a rapidly accelerating eastbound auto rack train led by and SD70ACe.

On Sunday the 22nd the day after the Quanah Flyer trip Steve Barry was out on the Wichita Falls Sub railfanning with Wes Carr before having to catch an afternoon flight back to the east coast.  Danny Sisson wanted to meet Steve, so I picked him up around 8:30am and headed in that direction.  We all met at the entrance to Hicks Field northwest of Saginaw to catch this loaded coal train led by the BNSF 6130.

The Last Miles to Fort Worth

We excited highway 287 at Oklaunion and drove south of the tracks into an open field to try to find a good side view for the entire train.  In a few minutes I worked these afternoon clouds into my picture.
