Backed Up at Tower 60

We all drove north to Tower 60 ahead of the Tolar Turn, and found its way blocked by the Grapevine passenger train waiting its turn to cross the busy interlocker first.

After a short wait the passenger train was able to proceed, and the Tolar Turn’s GP38 and three SD40’s pulled up in its place.

Luckily the signal turned yellow again in just a few minutes before vehicle traffic started to back up at nearby crossings.  We headed just south to the Trinity River bottoms to catch the Heartland Flyer.

Through the Park

After lunch on June 15th we decided to catch the inbound Fort Worth & Western Tolar Turn that was approaching Trinity Park on the way back to Hodge Yard.  We chose different locations, and Scott Herring and myself staked out the Lancaster Avenue overpass to deal with the high sun.  Before long FWWR GP38-2 2006 came into view around the curve.

I ran across the street for the going away view with a nearby skyline for a backdrop.

Recent development of the old Montgomery Ward building, hotels and condominiums have changed the face of this area in recent years.

Back Yard View

Our travels now took us back to Avondale to check on the loaded coal train with a new SD70ACe.  It had not moved, and we thought about giving up on it.  Then Bruce Barry made an original move and walked down this driveway to ask the home owner if we could photograph it from his back yard.

Transfer Run

We quickly drove south from the vehicle train and then turned back west into a church parking lot that afforded us an unobstructed view of the new signal bridge at South Haslet.  We had just enough time to set up for this shot of the transfer run from Alliance Yard to Saginaw.

Two GP50’s, two SD40-2’s and a GP38-2 make a diverse lashup of older power in today’s wide cab world.
