The days are getting long enough now that when I leave work each afternoon, I always wonder if I’m going to be fortunate enough to cap off the day with a decent train picture on the way home. Most days when northbound on Bryant-Irvin as I cross over the west end of Davidson Yard, I’m greeted by an eastbound out of the sun or hearing on the radio a westbound that left five minutes earlier or a deserted yard scene.
Yesterday afternoon though fate was on my side as a westbound intermodal was sitting at the crew change point, ready to go once a switching move got in the clear. I drove west on Vickery over my normal route home, but paused where the Baird Sub cuts through the middle of Boaz Park. I found a well lit spot in the park and with my trusty Canon 870IS point-and-shoot captured the CSX 7658 leaving town in a hurry to get to Sweetwater.
Two CSX and one UP locomotives composed a lashup of GE C40’s with a wide cab leading two conventional cabs. A few white Tropicana refrigerator cars occupied the space between the power and a long string of loaded well cars. My trophy of the trip home captured to top off the day, I headed home to a nice supper and some TV.
