Roller Coaster
We found a good spot along Highway 287 between Bowie and Bellevue where we could see the Wichita Falls Sub following the contour of the hogbacks. Before long the BNSF 8816 East came into view, following the hills like a roller coaster.
We managed to get ahead and catch the train just north of Bowie.
The view from the rear showed the terrain to be just as rolling.
With the loaded sulphur and grain and coal trains all stopped ahead, the dispatcher told the 8816 to stop off of crossings outside of Fruitland for the time being. Just south of Bowie I shot the unmoving train one more time using a slow shutter speed and high F-stop to keep the whole train in focus as much as possible.
Too bad the paint on the lead unit was so faded. Oh well….. Now we decided it was a good time to break for lunch in Bowie.
