Milepost 25.6
With two loaded BNSF coal trains heading my way southbound on the UP Midlothian Sub, I drove north to the only place on the map the tracks are accessible by road between the Joe Pool Lake and Midlothian. The Gifco Road crossing turned out to be not overly inspiring scenery wise, but the lighting was good as the tracks are running due north-south at this spot. I did not have to wait long before The BNSF 9682 South with two Grinstein SD70MAC’s rounded the corner and lit the opposing signal at milepost 25.6 red as they roared up the grade from the lake bridge to Midlothian.
The hum of the passing hoppers was soon replaced by the sound of two more Grinstein MAC’s running wide open as they passed by the camera.
The second loaded coal was only a few miles behind, so I stayed at the crossing since the train would be backlit in the afternoon sun once it turned southeast at Midlothian. Before long the scene repeated itself, except with a BNSF faded H2 SD70MAC leading this time.
The going away shot of the two DPU units shoving on the rear end posed the newer GEVO 6133 traversing the grassy mainline.
With nothing else close on the Midlothian Sub for the short term, I decided to head west on Highway 67 to check out Venus and the TXI Railport.
