Two Surviving Depots

Waxahachie is a somewhat unique town these days in that it has two railroad depots still standing just southeast of downtown.  The old M-K-T depot is dormant and boarded up as it overlooks the remaining few feet of what was once the Katy’s mainline from Dallas to Hillsboro.

Less than 100 feet to the east the old Burlington-Rock Island depot is in better shape as it is serves as the office for a local business.

The BNSF 4053 South took a right turn a mile north at the diamond and exited the UP Midlothian Sub onto the BNSF DFW Sub before arriving at my location a few minutes later.

I took a closer shot with the unique tower that is an identifying trademark of depots along this line to Teague and on south to Houston.

The radio indicated another UP train was leaving Fort Worth on the Midlothian Sub, so Molly and I elected to drive back west to Midlothian.

Those depot shots look great. A solid lashup of H3 units would look neat passing the depot.
