Final Shots for 2007
Sunday afternoon I got out again for a few hours and returned to the Trinity River bottoms just south of Tower 60 where I met up with fellow railfans Troy Minnick and Leslie Holt. Several southbounds with perfect light kept us occupied until sunset. A southbound loaded grain train led by the BNSF 4965 came down the Fort Worth Sub just after a northbound UP passed by on the Choctaw Sub Main One in the background.
Train watching turned to vintage aircraft watching as a restored World War Two Mitchell B25 bomber, the “Pacific Prowler” based at Meacham Field, filled our ears with the sound of its big radial engines.
Next a UP loaded grain train with five units from Wichita Falls originating on the Wichita, Tillman & Jackson came down the BNSF Fort Worth Sub on its way to Tower 55.
While the grain train was still passing by we had to run under the bridge so we could photograph this UP mainifest from Wichita coming south down the UP Duncan Sub. Note the late afternoon long shadows cast in the foreground by the grain train on the left.
We thought we were done, but now the Fort Worth & Western Everman Job came down Choctaw Main One from Hodge Yard powered by two GP38-3’s.
As I was walking back to the car the BNSF came up with one more train and my last picture for 2007 as the 4345 South rolled over the Trinity River with a manifest freight in the last few minutes of direct sunlight.
Hopefully 2008 will bring many more good pictures to share with everyone here at FL9!
