Family Day Part 1
Union Pacific’s Fort Worth Service Unit held their annual family day in the employee parking lot south of the diesel shops at Davidson Yard on October 20th this year. At UP’s invitation to photograph the event for them, I arrived at 11:30am after spending the morning on the Baird Sub with mixed results. Over the next four blog entries, here are 24 of my favorites taken during my five-hour stay. The banner at the front entrance was taking quite a beating from the gusty winds.
The UP Railroad Police had their tent set up and were showing a video about their duties while answering questions.
A native dance group was performing nearby for the crowd.
This miniature train required no tracks and chose its own route all day.
I climbed the steps up to the overhead employee footbridge connecting the parking lot to the shops for this overall view.
One of the more popular attractions allowed the children and spouses of employees to operate the UPY 8952 as an RCE unit back and forth on one of the new bypass tracks, with supervision of course.
Next I made my way over to the event’s display locomotive.
