Checking out Davidson
Last Sunday morning I got word the FWWR had received a 47-car unit pipe train from the UP overnight to take to Tolar so the cars could then be sent to the pipe yard halfway between there and Granbury a few at a time for unloading. While the train was being switched at Hodge Yard, Judy and I stopped by the engine terminal at UP’s Davidson Yard and met John Briggs to see what might be of interest. I had to quickly prepare for this shot as a BNSF interchange job powered by a GP38-2, an SD45-2 and a Genset pulled in on the new bypass #2.
When he cleared by a few minutes later, I caught the new Davidson Yard sign with a UP SD40-2 and Genset RCE switch job working unmanned in the background.
Once this job had cleared out of the way, our cameras turned to two interesting units on the service tracks. First was the new KCS SD70ACe #4045, the sister unit to the #4046 and #4047 John and I had both photographed the day before on the UP’s ALDTR train. It looks like the UP may be using this block of new units to get pay back on horsepower hours before delivering them to the KCS.
To the right sat a pair of FXE GE ES44AC’s, of which the #4642 was completey exposed for photography.
A call to Hodge Yard indicated it would be several hours before the pipe train would be ready to depart, so we moved on to run a few errands and get something to eat.
