Fallen Flags in Dallas

Filed under Daily Doings | Posted by KenFL9 at 8:33 am

Today’s slide finds us in Dallas in 1973 just north of Union Station at the junction with the Missouri Pacific’s Fort Worth main line.  A southbound Burlington Northern freight is passing through on the way to Houston via the Burlington-Rock Island line.

BN 6628 South Dallas TX 02-03-73

How many examples of things can you find in this picture that are not around any more?

All three locomotives, the Braniff signage, the signal bridge, the GN boxcar, the trackage?

Unless we are just north of Union Station, in the “North Jct” area, than the trackage is still there. but that signal bridge isnt. Its been replaced.

Awesome, awesome pic. Funny how something that many of us might think of as image clutter at the time (in this case, the billboard) can, in time, wind up being a treasured addition to a photo.

Kind of like looking at a train pic from several years ago and seeing a gas station sign advertising $1.15 gas.

Like Brian said, the Braniff signage, and the BN F45 along with the GN boxcar. It’s amazing how quickly time flies and things change in so little time.

Brian is right, I got my directions wrong while writing this up. We are indeed north of the station, and I have corrected the text now. Thanks Brian!
