Flatonia Sunrise to Sunset - Part Three
As the Flatonia Local was backing into the yard, at 10:21 am the nose of KCS 4004 North appeared through the trees.
The big SD70ACe in the company of a GE unit brought what we could now see was a merchandise train around the curve as it swung off the Cuero Sub to head east on the Glidden Sub to Houston.
One final close up was taken as the two units pass in front of Tommy’s home and start to accelerate their train.
After the KCS train was gone, Tommy and I drove back to the platform as a few other railfans began to show up. At 10:33 am the conductor of the local is seen walking from the yard office back to the UP 1887. He has a track warrant off the printer to now run south on the Cuera Sub to Shiner with a car of grain for the brewery.
We visited with the other railfans in the comfort of the platform during what would turn out to be a one-hour lull before the next train.
