The Last Leg to Flatonia
After leaving the empty BNSF Rock Train behind at Holland, we drove on south down the Waco Sub through Taylor, and then a few miles south of town a northbound headlight announced an empty UP coal train.
After this grab shot, I drove back to the other side of a curve and sag that looked like a good candidate for the big zoom as he caught up to me. The compression of the telephoto brings out every imperfection in the rail.
One more “in-your-face” shot completed the series as the train headed on into Temple.
We in turn continued on south and saw nothing else moving the rest of the way into Flatonia. After settling in at the motel, I left Judy to get ready for dinner while I cruised the nearly deserted downtown at twilight.
All was quiet, but a red over yellow westbound on the Glidden Sub indicated that soon a train would be entering the siding after crossing the diamond just ahead. The switch to the left leads to the southbound Cuero Sub towards Victoria.
Thinking I would see enough trains the next day, it was time to call it quits and take my wife to dinner.
