Coming into Big D

After reading for awhile, I returned to my rear vantage point as we approached Dallas.  Nothing was waiting for us at Mesquite, but a westbound empty autorack train was tied down in Miller Siding.

Immediately after leaving the depot in Longview, TX we overtook the first westbound train delayed earlier by a broken rail.

Meeting the Eastbound Fleet

Just before we arrived in Marshall, the conductor came over the PA system and told us there had been a broken rail in the vicinity a few hours earlier, and that as a result we would be meeting a number of eastbound trains before we caught up to a concentration of westbounds ahead of us.  The depot looked as beautiful as always from my rear vantage point when I passed by.

A Foggy Welcome Back to Texas

I awoke shortly after sunrise on October 20th, the last day of our trip home to Fort Worth on Amtrak 21.  I could remember a lot of curves and slower running between St. Louis and Poplar Bluff, MO during the night.  I would like to see that stretch in daylight sometime.  I negotiated my way down out of the top bunk just in time to catch this view of our misty crossing the Red River at Fulton, AR before Judy and I headed off to the dining car for breakfast.
