Home Again!
Even though we had enjoyed the trip immensely, now that we were on the home stretch between Dallas and Fort Worth we started to feel anxious about getting back home. I have shot the Dallas skyline before, but never from quite this angle.
As we moved out over the Trinity River, an eastbound stack train started by us on the south track.
The rear end cleared us at the west end of the bridge in time for one more skyline shot.
A few miles further west at the Chalk crossovers another westbound freight was waiting for us to come around him before following us on to Fort Worth.
When we arrived in Fort Worth, a final westbound was on the north side of us just east of Tower 55, and I snapped this last picture of another train for the trip of his lead unit, an ex-SP tunnel motor.
In a few minutes we accomplished the normal move for Amtrak 21 and pulled south of the tower to back into the Fort Worth ITC. My last picture for this nearly two week journey is of us backing past the Tower 55 sign as Judy takes in one last look out our roomette window.
Next it was time to unload ourselves for the final time and catch a ride home with my stepson. Overall, we rated the trip as excellent, especially in terms of the scenery. Amtrak performed very well in that the cars were comfortable, the food very good and the dining car staff good except for the “blue ink” incident; and two out of four of our sleeping car attendants giving 120% service while the other two performed adequately. The Isaak Walton Inn and its staff were exemplary during our stay, and it is definitely worth your patronage should you be in the area. Thank you Trains Magazine and Canon Camera for providing such a great trip!!
