Lake McDonald
Tonight we will take another brief respite from train pictures, as after catching the meet at Belton, Judy and I decided to visit Glacier National Park. It cost $25.00 to get in at West Glacier, but it was worth it to see the scenery even for our brief visit. We drove along the southern shore of Lake McDonald, and paused at one of the lookouts for this view looking east up the length of the lake.
Stanton Mountain rises to 7728 feet on the left, and Mount Brown is seen on the right. We looked north across the lake, but beyond the clear waters we could see nothing but dead trees. Later research indicated a forest fire several years ago ravaged that area down to the shoreline.
We drove further east to the lodge only to find it closed for the season. As we got back in the car I looked south up towards Mount Brown framed by the fall foliage.
On the way back to the entrance at West Glacier, we paused one more time to take in the magnificent views, and I took what I think in retrospect is one of my favorite scenery shots from the entire trip as I looked back east again towards Stanton Mountain.
Back to the trains tomorrow as the Montana 2006 vacation saga continues.
