Up to the Summit
Time to return to the saga of our recent Montana adventure. Leaving Java behind, Judy and I paced the BNSF 7673 East as he climbed the grade towards Marias Pass. I pulled over at a corral with several horses resting up after a summer of trail riding. They were far less interested in the train than we were.
A few yards down the road was another angle of the train winding around the face of the mountains as it approached the horseshoe curve at Blacktail.
We jumped ahead and I grabbed a shot of the BNSF’s sign at Marias designating the location of the continental divide at 5,216 feet.
A few minutes later the 7673 caught up with us and I captured it passing the sign.
Judy and I drove on ahead of him again and made our next stop at another railfan familiar location called False Summit. The foliage looked good here with the Skeleton Mountains in the background.
I had in mind catching him next on the Two Medicine Bridge since I did not have full light on Friday; but we were delayed when we saw the BNSF 5143 West between Bison and East Glacier and pulled over for a broadside view.
Since he would meet the 7673 East at Bison, we had plenty of time to head on to East Glacier.
