Lake Wanda

AT&SF GP38-2 #2358 and two other units pull a westbound train past the open fields surrounding the location known as Lake Wanda in May of 1993.  This area is now completely covered with housing developments.

Now the first update from the Montana Trip.  Here are two pictures from Tuesday’s journey on Amtrak #22, both taken from the window in our roomette.  First up is a view of the Mississippi River as we were leaving St. Louis and its familiar arch behind.

Now later in the afternoon as we were arriving in Chicago and just before vanishing into the darkness of Union Station, I snapped this view of Metra # 183, the “City of Itasca” waiting for the afternoon rush hour to begin.

Wednesday we board the Empire Builder for the second half of our outbound journey.

Hope your having fun. The two times I’ve ridden Amtrak through there we always crossed the river north of the arch but then again it was always pitch black in the middle of the night. If I remember correctly that’s the McDonald’s river boat just in front of the arch. Neat Metra shot. Wish I was there.
