CP on Sunday evening

It was a long weekend at the office, and by late Sunday afternoon I was ready to get out for a few minutes.  I had a refurbished computer to deliver to my cousin Troy for his grandson, and so we agreed to meet at the depot parking lot in Saginaw.  Bill Hemb called me as I was about to leave the office to let me know a pair of CP SD40-2’s were sitting on the north side of the Trinity River just south of Tower 60.  I highballed on over there first, and got this shot as the low sun was flirting with the clouds on the western horizon.

Now on the road again for Saginaw, I called Bill back to thank him, and got the word a southbound autorack train was just leaving Saginaw led by a single Montana Rail Link SD40-2XR.  I cut over to the tracks at the north end of the Northside siding, and within a minute I was rewarded with this shot of #262 as the shadows lengthened.

When I passed the yard office in Saginaw, there was just enough light left to get this shot of GG20B #1211 as it and two other units were operating in remote mode to shove a cut of cars into the yard.

The sun was now gone for good when I reached the parking lot and made the hardware transfer to Troy.  After visiting with the gathered fans as darkness crept up on us, I said my goodbyes when a headlight appeared to the north on the BNSF.  I set up just south of the signal gantry for this last hand-held shot of the day with my film speed set at 3200.

Two switchers led by the 2586 drifted down into the west pass and on towards the yard office as red boards protected against any northbound moves.  Satisfied with my catches for this quick trip, I drove on home to get some sleep before starting over on Monday morning.

Hmm, so you ARE related to Troy. It all makes sense now …
