I will get out of the ATSF rut tomorrow when there is more time, but for tonight it was easier to reach for the same binder drawn from over the past few days. First off we see very clean ATSF SD45 #5301 accelerating an eastbound train away from Waynoka, OK after changing crews at the depot a mile behind. On its way to Wellington, KS the train is about to pass under the cantilever signal at the east end of the yard in June of 1989.
Three years earlier on August 9th in 1986 I spent the whole day around Waynoka recording the crew changes at the historic depot. In the morning we see an eastbound train led by an SD40-2 in failed-merger SPSF paint stopped in front of the depot. The crew from Amarillo, TX is getting off and exchanging information with the new crew about to take the train on to Wellington, KS.
Later on in the afternoon a westbound intermodal led by a C30-7 pulls to a stop in front of the depot, which now houses a restaurant and a museum.
The buildings still stand, but now except for locals, BNSF trains roll on through town without stopping on their way between Amarillo and either Wellington or Enid.
