A few days ago BNSF dispatcher Wes Carr related on Railspot his recent familiarization trip to his territory on the Avard Subdivision between Tulsa and Avard, OK. Over the next two days here are a few shots from the past to pay homage to his trip. Back in the 1980’s the line belonged to the Frisco and then the Burlington Northern, and primarily hosted run-thru trains between the east and the west via the connection at Avard.
First up is a westbound train led by an F45 running upgrade along the Arkansas River between Sand Springs and the Keystone Lake Dam shortly after leaving Tulsa in the summer of 1981.
Next up is an eastbound train in 1986 with six SD40-2’s crossing the Cimarron River just west of Mannford, OK before the waters pour into Keystone Lake.
Last up for tonight is a westbound train in 1981 powered by a pair of SD45’s, this time passing the BN depot in Perry, OK.
Tomorrow we’ll journey on to Avard via Enid.
