A Few Holiday Pictures on May 29th
Well, as I predicted after a few hours I could not resist making a brief run around town before woring on my “to do” list. I first headed east along the UP towards Centennial Yard until I saw the headlights of a westbound train parked on the Santa Fe bypass under the Bryant-Irvin overpass. Then I looked to the right and saw the approach signals for the new bypass tracks were displaying yellow over yellow. It was now I noticed a locomotive headlight in my rear view mirror, and so I stepped on the gas and passed what turned out to be a westbound BNSF train under the overpass. I headed down to the Centennial Yard west end overpass for this shot of what turned out to be an eastbound BNSF train coming off of the Baird Sub.
The BNSF 4773 West was heading out of the morning sun, so I dropped back west to the Benbrook team track, where I was able to record a resonable broadside shot.
Now I made it all the way back east to the Centennial engine terminal, where I found Green Goat #2304 switching while coupled to two MP15’s.
Tower 55 was slow, so I headed up to FWWR Hodge Yard. FWWR was observing the holiday, so all the local power was tied up and shut down in a long row with GP38 #2004 on the east end.
On the west end, GP38 #2006 was framed between the crew room and shop buildings, and the rack of EOT’s on the right added enough interest that I could not pass up the shot.
I was leaving when I heard a K5LA coming up the hill from Tower 60 on the UP or the BNSF, so I headed west to the Hodge Yard sigh to check out what was coming. As the roar of EMD 645 prime movers got louder, I could see it was a northbound UP train on Choctaw Sub Main One with two TFM SD40-2’s for power.
I let him go as the lighting would be bad once he turned north at FWWR Junction, and headed down to check out Peach Yard on the way back home. Nothing was stirring, but then I heard another K5LA, this time coming from something northbound on the BNSF Fort Worth Sub. With no other place to go quickly, I set up to shoot whatever it was passing over the Cold Springs Road stone underpass. To my surprise it turned out to be the same KCS power from Saturday morning’s military train that went south on the FWWR.
I captured the lead unit well enough, and he had a train loaded with different equipment from Saturday. As he was increasingly heading out of the sun, I decided to pass on chasing him and the rest of my drive back home was uneventful. Back to work tomorrow!
