KCS Memories on February 18th
I thought about venturing out only as far a Boaz Park today, but listening on the scanner to the number of wrecks close to home that Benbrook P.D. was working on the icy streets, I decided to stay home. The KCS “Frozen Weed” get-together is scheduled for next weekend around Rich Mountain, but it looks like I will be working and unable to attend. So instead, I scanned a few older shots from the KCS slide box as a small tribute.
First up is a loaded KCS coal train southbound with two SD40’s and three BN C30-7’s climbing the grade into Gentry, Arkansas in 1986.
Second up is another KCS coal train climbing a southbound grade, this time at Rich Mountain in the summer of 1982 with an SD50X and three SD40’s for power.
Thirdly, we are watching an eastbound KCS freight pulled by a GP38-2 and three GP30’s crossing Big Cypress Creek in Jefferson, TX in 1979 while two fishermen try their luck.
Fourth and finally, we are looking down as one of KCS’s distinctive stainless steel cabooses moves south past the Trigg Street yard office in Texarkana in 1977 after the operator and conductor have exchanged paperwork.
More freezing rain is forecast for tomorrow, so I may be digging into the slide boxes once again.
